Field Maintenance Tip of the Week – Field Maintenance 2011

In the distant past we have relied on word of mouth to get Field Maintenance information out to Managers, Parents and Coaches.  Over the last few years, Olive Little League (“OLL”) has put together a summary of Field Maintenance Procedures, to educate and inform it’s members of what needs to be done when using, prepping and maintaining the fields at Olive and Shaffer Parks.
Attached is the 2011 version of this document.  We have further refined the procedures and separated them into the following groups:
  • Pre-Game and Pre-Practices
  • Post-Game and Post-Practices.
  • Other Information

This will make it an better read and easier to find the needed information at a glance.  If I may suggest, please do the following with this information:

  • Read it and ask me questions, if any.
  • Send it to your Coaches.
  • Send it to your Parents, especially those that help you with your field responsibilities.
  • Print it out and keep it in your practice plan, game plan or Manager administrative notebook, for easy reference.

I will be available for questions during the upcoming Field Work Day(s).  In addition, I hope to have a couple of short informative clinics during the year to educate and improve our collective knowledge on “why” we do what we do on the fields and some helpful hints to make it easier.  I am still finalizing the few topics that might be interesting as well as when would be the best time to hold them (say, Saturday for 15 minutes, between game 1 and 2 on Field 4).

If you have any ideas and or preferences, let me know.  Until then, thanks in advance for all your efforts at keeping the fields healthy, looking nice and in great playing shape for our kids!

Thanks for reading,

Bruce MacCallum
